I’ve really been doing my research on this one. I’m thrilled to report that I’ve found some fantastic options for shampoos that are free of toxins. While the best of the best are a little different than what we’re used to, I’ve also included several solutions that are probably better than what you’re using right now but still contain one or two questionable ingredients.
The hardest part for many of us who are just starting out on this path appears to be realizing that just because a shampoo doesn’t foam up much doesn’t mean that your hair isn’t getting clean. Our favorite shampoos, like Head and Shoulders, Biolage, Dove, Aussie, or even Suave, have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfates to thank for their luxurious lather. If you want anything really non-toxic, they must leave because they’re also the cause of skin rashes and are potential carcinogens.

Carina Organics Dandruff Shampoo
This is by far the safest and most toxin free anti-dandruff shampoo I have come across so far. Carina Organics appears to take the source of its ingredients seriously and they pay attention to their product formulations. This company’s entire brand seems to stand out as being safe to use and having non-toxic ingredients. And let me tell you, that is hard to find.
Their dandruff shampoo comes in Sweet Pea scent and unscented. They offer regular shampoos and conditioners in multiple different scents along with body wash as well. They are Sweet Pea, Citrus, Peppermint, Lavender, and Grapefruit. This brand even offers a baby shampoo and bodywash in Sweet Pea and Unscented. This of course is always a plus!
Earthley’s Shampoo Bar
This eco-friendly, no-waste bar cleans your hair without harsh ingredients. It gently cleanses the hair and scalp without stripping it of all of natural oils that keep your hair healthy. This means that your scalp doesn’t end up dry and flaky and compensate by overproducing oil. Promote hair growth, helps with moisture retention, and all while regulating oil production to keep your scalp healthy.
Each bar should last five to seven weeks with regular showers.

Zuma Organic Shampoo

Which is always a plus when you can use one product for the whole family.
Just Ingredients
Just Ingredients offers a dry shampoo. As the rest of their products the reviews state how much people love this product. It contains organic arrowroot and baking soda to soak up excess oils which adds volume and freshness to the hair. Wellnesse
This Wellnesse cleansing shampoo helps stimulate hair growth, restores shine, and prevents breakage. So you can look and feel your best every day. This natural formula is packed with all-natural ingredients, so your hair gets the love it deserves. This shampoo was made for all hair types. This company states that they wanted everyone to be able to benefit from and experience happier hair, regardless of their hair type or color. It comes in two different formulations which are Coconut & Citrus and Coconut & Verbena Leaf which is for curly and wavy hair.
Hairprint Brand Formulas
This brand comes in a few different formulations. It comes with a Made Safe Certification which means that a product is literally made with safe ingredients. They are not known or suspected to harm human health or the environment. It’s the first nontoxic certification to apply to products we use every day. Wash & Grow is potent blend of the most effective and proven botanicals that nourish and strengthen your hair. It is a plant-based solution that stimulates the scalp and removes growth inhibiting substances in the follicle and greatly promotes hair health and growth. Chelating Shampoo (detoxifier)
This detoxifier is to eliminate buildup on the hair brought on by contemporary hair care products and hard water. Your hair may become limp, lifeless, and lanky. You may not be able to see it, but you can still feel it.

You might have noticed that a few of the ingredients in Hairprint are fermented. Until Lactobacillus or other bacteria break them down, many plant ingredients are not bioavailable to the skin cells. It may cost more, but it’s totally worth it if it makes ingredients effective.

It comes in three different scents that are Rosemary (normal, oil, itchy scalp), Eucalyptus (normal, dry, itchy scalp) and Rumohra (dry, crumbly, itchy scalp).
This was a bit of a tough one!
Some of us are eager to jump right in when we enter this non-toxic environment. While others like to merely put their toes in and test the waters. I absolutely realize that finding a solution that works for you when dealing with harmful or non-toxic ingredients may feel crippling. Even if the switch you make tomorrow isn’t the right one for you and you decide to go back to what you were using; just know that you are still on the right track. You are still in the right mindset of wanting to do better! Do not feel discouraged if this is the case. You will find what works for you even if it takes a little time. But also know that when you first switch to a toxin free alternative your hair and scalp may need to detox and take some time to adjust. With that being said, I would recommend giving each product you try at least a month to see the full results before deciding to switch.
There are not a lot of options that I have found here as of yet. However, I hope you have found one that you think might work for you. If not, you can always refer back to my post of ingredients to avoid and try to research some yourself. This is a tough one to find clean options, but I will hopefully be able to add to this list.
