Sadly, very few companies would have met the requirements to not have the toxic ingredients that I have found so far and listed in my post here, but there are several other elements that make this situation a little more complicated. Certain dishwashers can’t operate with the “safer” brands without causing damage to internal parts. This is the reason I DO NOT advise you to search for homemade dishwashing detergent recipes. Yet many of the “best” items are easily handled by other dishwashers.
I recommend choosing from this list I have created rather than making your own dishwasher detergent because most of them are designed to not damage your dishwasher. If you don’t like any of the options on the list and would like to search for your own you can use my list of “ingredients to avoid” to help you with you search if you would like and you can find that here.
Truly Free
Truly Free is a subscription service. You can order things as one-time orders, but you get discounts with the subscription, so I find that more cost effective. You can get laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, dishwashing detergent, hand and dish soap, air freshener, dryer angel, which is their version of the dryer sheet, and more. You can basically replace everything you have as far as home needs, and it is all toxin free products. Your first order you will get the jug for laundry and the spray bottles for the cleaners that you will keep once they are empty and then just continue to order the refill packs for the future orders.
I use this for my laundry, and I am obsessed with the dryer angel scent! They have multiple options for stain removal. This brand seems very cost effective if you ask me compared to what you get in stores. I also use their dishwasher detergent, kitchen cleaner, floor cleaner, kitchen degreaser, bathroom cleaner, dish soap, hand soap, and room spray. I love everything I have!
I almost forgot to mention that you do get free items in each box you order and get discounts with the more items you order which I have found to be a pretty great deal.

Molly Sud’s
Molly’s Sud’s is 100% biodegradable and does not contribute to micro-plastic pollution. Molly’s Suds is always safe for people and the environment, and as part of their commitment to Mother Earth, their Dishwasher Detergent Pods are packed in a pouch made from at least 35% post-consumer recycled materials. Clean dishes, clean environment. One pouch comes with 120 pods and is safe for all dishwashers. This comes in Citrus and unscented.
Branch Basics
Branch Basics is a great company. You can subscribe for a discount on their products if you like having that as an option. Their tablets are 100% biodegradable and made to remove even the toughest grease and sticky messes. Each tablet is PVA-free and designed to fit all dishwashers. Each refill comes with 40 tablets.
Blueland Tablets
Blueland tablets according to Amazon this is the leading brand in dishwasher detergents and have sold over 10 million products and they have over 50,000 five-star reviews. They recommend dropping the tablet into the bottom of your dishwasher and not placing into the little compartment (my family has been doing this with ours for some times now actually we were told that it’s harder on your dishwasher to put it in the compartment by a repair man).
That’s it for now!
I hope you found this list helpful and have found one that you’d like to try out. Just remember that this is not an all-inclusive list and there are other brands out there. These are just a few I have found so far that meet my requirements. If you want to search yourself, feel free to use my ingredients list to help you out! You can find that here for reference.
