Deodorant appears to be a difficult one to lock down, regardless of how far along you are on your non-toxic journey. Fortunately, we can all agree that aluminum deodorant is a definite no-no. If you haven’t already you can read about other toxic ingredients here.
However, when it comes to baking soda, it appears that people cannot agree. Although baking soda-containing deodorants may be helpful, some people do appear to react to them, regardless of whether they had sensitive skin historically or not. And anyone who has ever experienced a skin irritant in their armpits knows that’s not very enjoyable.
In my recommendations, I am going to be including whether or not these products include baking soda. That way you can make the best decision for yourself, as you know your body best. Keep in mind that baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate) is an ingredient that I feel safe with, it can just be an irritant for some.

The Detoxifying Pit Mask draws out impurities and helps hurry the detox process along a bit, so your underarms smell less and you feel more comfortable. While making the switch to natural deodorant have this to make the journey easier!
Earthley Mineral Deodorant (baking soda FREE)
Earthley Mineral Deodorant is baking soda (and aluminum) free, and people are absolutely raving about it. There are so many reviews left from people with sensitive skin stating that this has worked wonders for them and that it has not caused any reactions or irritations. Another thing mentioned frequently in reviews is how well this deodorant conceals body odor incredibly well.
They offer this in many scents: Unscented, Vanilla Bean, Lavender, Citrus, Woods, Spring Blossoms, Rustic, and Blue Bliss.
Lastly, and probably my favorite part about Earthley’s deodorant, is that they offer trial sizes and at a pretty affordable cost. I love this because deodorant can be a tough product to swap and being able to try it out without the commitment of a full bottle is a great option. I wish more companies offered this as an option.
Earthley Mineral Deodorant Plus (baking soda FREE)
Earthley also has their “plus” deodorant, also aluminum and baking soda free, but contains french green clay which provides lymphatic system support, extra protection, and actually helps to detox the skin to help fight stink.
They offer this deodorant in multiple scents as well: Unscented, Lemon-Mint, Ginger-Lime, Pumpkin Spice, and Grapefruit-Juniper. And the addition of the french green clay only adds $1.00 to the price.
French green clay is one of those ingredients that you can come to your own conclusions on, as the research on it is very limited, but the personal reviews (from multiple sources) of it seem to be very good.
It is important to note that there are quite a few reviews of this deodorant claiming it stained clothes, and the fix for that is allowing it to completely dry before putting your clothes on.
Just Ingredients (baking soda FREE)
This is yet another great option with very clean ingredients. It comes in two different applications; normal bar type and it also comes in a cream that is Sweet Citrus scent. There are multiple scents for the bar deodorant such as Vanilla Mint, Eucalyptus Mint, Coconut Vanilla, Cedarwood Spice, Sweet Citrus, and unscented. This brand has fantastic reviews as well and people are seeming to love their deodorants. Some of the scents sell out fairly often due to popularity. Little Seed Farm (baking soda FREE)
The ingredients of this one are great and the reviews are outstanding. This is not your typical application, however. It is a cream in a jar, so this is a bit different than what you’re probably used to. Moreover, if you’re up for the challenge, people seriously have nothing but great things to say about this deodorant.
They offer this in Activated Charcoal, Cucumber, Coconut, Grapefruit Lemon, Jasmine Green Tea, Lavender, Rosemary Patchouli, Cedar Vanilla, and Unscented.
Attitude Super Leaves (with baking soda)
If this is something that is important to you, Attitude sells its deodorant in a plastic-free container. Although the ingredients appear to be excellent, remember that this recipe does contain baking soda.
They offer this line in the following scents: Unscented, Olive Leaves, Lemon Leaves, Vine Leaves and Pomegranate, White Tea Leaves, Orange Leaves.
Attitude Sensitive (baking soda FREE)
Moreover, attitude offers a sensitive line that excludes baking soda. This formulation naturally absorbs moisture because it contains corn starch which is known for its absorbent properties. This packaging line also does not use any plastic at all.
The scents of this line include Unscented, Argan Oil, Avocado Oil, and Chamomile.
Earth Mama (with baking soda)
Earth Mama’s formula does contain baking soda, however, it was made for extra sensitive skin. It has the perfect balance of baking soda and magnesium. Just enough to work, not enough to hurt. So if you have had sensitivities to baking soda in the past it may still be worth it to give this one a shot. Another great thing about this brand is that you have the option to buy travel size pack to try all 4 scents to see if you like it and which scent is your favorite. It comes in for different scents that are Bright Citrus, Calming Lavender, Ginger Fresh, and Simply Non-Scented.
Each & Every (baking soda FREE)
Each & Every’s Deodorant is a little more on the pricey side but it has a ton of great reviews. It is made with 6 clean ingredients and essential oils. There are 6 different scents that it comes in which are Citrus & Vetiver, Cedar & Vanilla, Cedar & Spice, Lavender & Lemon, Sandelwood & Blackpepper, Coconut & Lime, Juniper & Mint, Rose & Vanilla, and Unscented.
