The biggest organ of your body is the skin. It keeps you safe every day, but are you also protecting it? Our health may be affected by the fact that our bodies absorb what we put on them directly into our cells. Sometimes, not immediately, but over time, an accumulation of toxic chemicals can cause irreversible damage. We frequently spend a lot of time considering how to take care of our face and hair. How do you take a shower? What do you apply daily? Check the ingredient list I created in another post to see if any of those are included in your bath soap or bodywash. If so, it might be time to consider a different course of action. Below I will include some safer alternatives for you to consider.
Aleavia Prebiotic Skincare
This was the first nontoxic bodywash I decided to purchase, and both my family and I have loved it. You can clean your whole body and you can also use this as a shampoo. Aleavia provides an enzymatic body wash, meaning it naturally helps to balance the pH levels in your skin and eliminate body odor. It helps skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, keratosis, and more. It also will help to reduce sunspots and improve the appearance of burns and rash scars. These body cleansers are ideal for all skin types and are especially great for acne-prone skin, in addition to being 100% baby safe.
They provide it in Orchid scent, Lavender, Green Tea Honeysuckle, Citrus Bliss, and Unscented formula.
Christina Moss
The Pomegranate Body Wash ingredients make it a powerful overall health booster that is amazing for your skin. Beat wrinkles and aging every time you wash. It smells wonderful, it feels amazing, and it does amazing things for your skin.
The Lemon Verbena is full of powerful antioxidants that are great for your skin. It’s clean and pure ingredients make it a powerful overall health booster, but for skin, it’s amazing. Beat wrinkles and aging every time you wash just like the pomegranate wash.
Christina Moss also offers a bar soap option if body wash is not your thing. What they put into their products is just as important as what they leave out. Their body soap is rich, nutritious, and will clean, nourish, and feed your skin with pure and clean ingredients. This includes extracts and essential oils. It is excellent for those with sensitive skin. It lathers and rinses clean with skin soothing ingredients, without leaving build-up, stripping, or drying out your skin.
Earthley
This Earthley 3 in 1 soap bar was made with deeply nourishing, specialty oils that aren’t usually found in soaps. That’s why it’s so unique and why it can be used for so many different things. The bar works well as a facial cleanser because it’s nourishing and gently cleansing, especially for dry skin. It also works as a shampoo bar, cleansing without buildup. It comes in Unscented, Rustic, and Spring Blossom scents.
All of their soap is gentle, but this is their gentlest and most nourishing bar. It’s the best for sensitive skin that’s prone to issues like eczema. It works wonders and is safe for even the littlest of your kiddos.
Kids Fun Shaped Gentle Body Soap
Keep your kids clean with Earthley’s gentle coconut milk body soap, in fun shapes. Real soap, no detergents. You can choose from small (about 2 oz.) or large (about 4 oz.) size bars.
Wellnesse
With its fresh, citrus scent and silky-smooth lather, the Wellnesse body bar is setting a new standard for clean skincare. You can embrace the feeling of a warm, tropical day on the beach every day from the privacy of your own bathroom. Again, the reviews on this one talk about how much they love the scent and the clean feeling after using it.
Beauty By Earth
Whether you’re looking for a men’s body wash, something for women or the whole family, Beauty By Earth has got you covered. If you have oily, problematic prone skin, then the Peppermint Tea Tree formula is for you. It is time to get your skin back to its natural balance with this tea tree oil soap. This generous sized bottle of shower gel comes with a pump for easy dispensing for daily use in the shower or bath. A little goes a long way, so it will last.
Remedy Soap
Remedy Soap body wash is a powerful odor eliminator that helps with acne as well as other skin irritations including athlete’s foot, candida, ringworm, jock itch, foot odor, and toenail issues.
This men’s and women’s shower gel is made from premium botanical tea tree oil and peppermint oil, which are well known for naturally helping skin irritations such as soothing dry, Itchy, cracked, and flaky skin. This is also a good wash for people with eczema that also comes in a bar soap.
Earth Mama
This is castile soap, which is among the safest soaps available. Castile soap should be used in conjunction with a moisturizer since it can feel quite drying, especially when your body is initially getting acclimated to it. Nonetheless, despite the drying sensation, most people with sensitivities claim that this kind of soap has the best effects on their skin (Earth Mama or any other natural castile soap brand like Dr. Bronner’s – see below).
Earth Mama offers their castile soap in Unscented, Calming Lavender, Ginger Fresh, and Sweet Orange.
Dr. Bronner’s
Dr. Bronner’s is a great castile soap option and they say it can be used for multiple purposes: hand soap, body wash, shampoo, laundry, floor cleaner, dog shampoo, fruits and veggies rinse, all-purpose cleaner, or a natural pesticide for plants. Personally, I’d say this is a great option if you’re looking for one product to swap out a lot of products you have at home.
Be aware, this product is HIGHLY concentrated and you should follow the dilution instructions on the bottle for all of the different uses to ensure safety. However, because it’s highly concentrated, a bottle of this will last you a very long, even when you use it for everything it can be used for.
Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap is offered in Lavender, Baby Unscented, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Almond, Rose, Eucalyptus, and Citrus.
Dr. Bronner’s does also come in a bar soap option if you prefer that versus the liquid. It comes in Almond, Citrus, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Peppermint, Rose, Tea Tree, and Baby Unscented.
Kiss Kiss Goodnight Melting Cleanser
A mother whose kid suffered from sensitive skin and eczema that persisted despite their best efforts led to the creation of Kiss Kiss Goodnight. To assist infants and children in developing a healthy microbiota, acid-mantle, and skin barrier, this mother (and scientist) developed a microbiome-friendly cleaner.
This is arguably the cleanest, most non-toxic body cleanser you can select for your children (or yourself really) because the ingredients are pure and there are no preservatives, essential oils, or fragrances. The majority of reviewers praise how this product makes their child’s skin feel and claim that it serves as both a cleanser and a moisturizer.
Meliora Soap Bar
Meliora Bath and Body Soap Bars are made from organic coconut and organic sunflower oils at their factory in Chicago, IL. Each 4-ounce bar is extremely versatile. You can use it in the shower for total body cleaning, by your sink to wash your hands, or even as a shaving bar. One bar can do it all! They are made with100% plastic-free packaging which means that their soap bars are people and planet-friendly inside and out. The scented bars only include organic essential oils to make for a fresh scent and no synthetic fragrances. This soap bar is provided in 3 separate scents that include Lavender, Peppermint and unscented.
Anything catch your eye?
I hope you were able to choose one that meets both your needs and your price point. Keep in mind that going nontoxic can feel quite different than what you are used to. T hese items won’t feel quite the same as the current ones you are used to. Don’t give up right away if your skin begins to respond in a way that you might find undesirable. It might produce more oils at first. But I assure you that this is just your body getting used to making and maintaining its natural barrier once again. It may take time for it to get used to being able to regulate itself without the harmful chemicals it was used to.
And as always, just remember that this is not an all-inclusive list and I always encourage you to do your own research if you don’t see one here you think you would like. There are a bunch of products out there and I can’t possibly include them all here. But I do think this is a great list of products and a great list for someone just starting out in their nontoxic journey as to not feel so overwhelmed in their search. Here is a list of ingredients for you to reference if you need to.
